San Antonio Veterinarian Clinic
Cats and Car Engines
San Antonio can get very cold at night, especially in the winter months, and early morning commuters often rush out to their car in the morning and start it up so that it gets warm for their drive. One thing that could cause these driver's a lot of trouble, however, is to simply not check for animals under their car hoods.
Pets such as cats like to cuddle up against warm car engines and go to sleep. They can easily squeeze their small body into the engine area and find a comfortable spot to snooze. The problem is that they don't always know that the car is going to be started up in the morning, and the running engine could maim or even kill them. As car owners and pet lovers, it is our responsibility to inform them of our presence and save their lives.
The quickest and easiest way to find out if an animal is under your car hood is to bang on the hood. While not banging hard enough to dent your hood yet banging hard enough to notify an animal of your presence, any animals under the hood should be frightened enough to leave. This will save their life and allow you to continue on your morning commute uninterrupted.
If an animal does get injured under your hood, contact our San Antonio veterinarian clinic right away for the pet's best chance of survival.
